Sustainability and the protection of the environment are as much a part of our self-image as our innovative and high-quality finishing processes. That is why we are now pleased to take another step towards the future: Our main factory in Herisau has been supplied with solar energy since the end of last year.

As a pioneer in the field of modern textile finishing, we have always set a good example: In addition to previously established social and economic standards, such as state-of-the-art exhaust air purification plants, a biological wastewater treatment plant and various OEKO-TEX certifications, the construction of our own solar plant is another trend-setting step. The new photovoltaic plant was commissioned at the end of 2022 and, with a total area of 2547 square meters and a total of 1306 solar modules, is the largest to date in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden.

The changeover to green electricity also benefits the region. With our operating facilities, we consume 15 to 20 percent of the electricity needed in Herisau, which is now generated from renewable energy sources. In addition, the photovoltaic system produces more electricity than is needed within the company: In total, the system enables us to produce 420MWh of electricity per year. While we consume around 85 to 90 percent of this ourselves, the surplus ten to 15 percent is fed into the community's public power grid.

A big thank you goes to our majority shareholder, the Steinegg Foundation in Herisau, which financed 100 percent of this major project.
